Synergia officially adhered to the UN Global Compact and joined the Ambition for the SDGs Program , of the same entity.
In September 2021, the company took two important decisions towards its vocation, which is the positive transformation of society , through its business activities. From these decisions, important goals and commitments emerged.
By joining the UN Global Compact , Synergia committed to conducting its operations respecting the 10 universal principles defined by the United Nations, which respond to four urgent issues for societies: human rights, environment, labor and the fight against corruption .
The 10 universal principles to which the Global Compact signatory companies, including Synergia, are committed are:
With these principles as guiding principles, world leaders and civil society representatives gathered to develop an action plan that could guide governments, companies and societies towards a more sustainable and inclusive world. This plan was launched in 2015, entitled the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and consists of 17 goals, which came to be known as the 17 SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals .
The UN Global Compact, aiming to help companies define goals and commitments that meet the SDGs, developed the Ambition for the SDGs Program , a program that aims to challenge and support participating companies to establish which SDGs are adherent to their businesses .
Joining the Ambition for the SDGs Program was crucial for deepening the knowledge of Synergia’s teams in each of the objectives, studying the best practices and, thus, defining ambitious goals that adhere to the company’s reality.
For a few months, Synergia exhaustively discussed each of the SDGs, assessing the level of impact it could achieve in each of them. Finally, SDG 5 , which deals with “ Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls ” was chosen.
But this choice, in itself, did not represent an audacious challenge , as Synergia lives in a positive scenario in terms of gender. For this reason, the company incorporated the racial issue , making the target by 2030 even bolder.
At Synergia, gender equality has been a reality for some years now. The company started 2022 with 58 % of its professional staff being women . This predominance is also reflected in leadership positions, where 59% of women occupy coordination and supervision positions and 61% in senior management (management and directors).
As for the racial issue, the company still has a way to go. In the first quarter of 2022, 48% of self-declared black or brown employees made up the professional staff. The percentage in management positions (coordination and supervision) was 24%, and in senior management only 11%.
The choice for SDG 5 with the incorporation of the racial issue also took into account one of Synergia’s strategic planning guidelines for this year, which is: ‘ guarantee the diversity of employees at all levels and areas of the company’s activities, whether strategic, tactical or operational ‘.
In addition to SDG 5, Synergia’s action plan also considers other SDGs that are interrelated both with sustainability goals and commitments and with its performance as a socio-environmental consultancy . Are they:
Following the actions proposed by the Global Compact, Synergia was present, on August 18, at the “ 2nd Meeting with CEOs: Ambition for the SDGs for the Decade of Action ”. At the event, Maria Albuquerque , founder and CEO of Synergia, publicly disclosed the commitments undertaken by the company.
