In 2010, the implementation of the Industrial District of São João da Barra – DISJB began. A project was carried out with the objectives of supporting the development of northern Rio de Janeiro and taking advantage of the proximity to the Campos Basin oil region, as well as the installation of the Açu Superport port complex, in an area of 70 km2. To be viable, the DISJB needed to relocate families with rural characteristics, residing in its polygon.
The Resettlement Program served 95 families and was named Vila da Terra. The architectural models of the new homes were developed in conjunction with the families, reflecting their habits of using the spaces. In addition, a permanent duty and systematic visits were established to accompany families, offering them the assistance needed during the period of adaptation to changes.
The productive restructuring project offered to farmers, with technical support to improve production and income, was exemplary and resulted in video and book records, being recognized today as a milestone in the quality of life of that population.
